BRIEF HISTORY OF PICE INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL CONFERENCE (PICE ITC)

"That's one small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind” - the now famous words uttered by Neil Armstrong when he first landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969.  This was the guiding force that propelled the leaders of PICE Qatar sometime in the first quarter of 2012 to initiate the creation of a platform where Filipino Civil Engineers could showcase their skills and talents in the International Arena. With official blessings from the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) National then headed by President Romeo S. Momo, the 2012 PICE Qatar Board of Directors, authorized then President Engr. Delfino C. de Leon, to initiate and communicate with the leaders of PICE International Chapters, only seven (7) during that time, and proposed that one small step which led to that giant leap for PICE International chapter members.

 

Having seen the importance of such undertaking in the Civil Engineering profession, the leaders of each of the PICE chapters from PICE KSA-Riyadh Region, PICE Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia (EPSA), PICE Oman, PICE Singapore, PICE Bahrain, and PICE United Arab Emirates (UAE) responded positively.  Thus, started the laying of the groundwork for the holding of the first ever PICE International Technical Conference with PICE Qatar volunteering to organize and host the event.   And with almost 400 delegates in attendance from PICE EPSA, PICE Oman, PICE UAE, PICE Bahrain, PICE Singapore, and PICE Qatar, the 1st PICE International Technical Conference (ITC) with the theme “PICE-Aiming Towards A Sustainable Development” was successfully conducted on August 19-20, 2012 at the Diplomatic Club in Doha, Qatar.  Also gracing this historical event either as guests and/or resource persons were then incumbent and past PICE National officers led by Pres. Momo, IPP Benito M. Pacheco, 1VP (PP) David G. Sanchez, Sec. Lea N. Delfinado, Administrative Officer Nanette G. Villanueva, the late Dr. Danilo C. Terante and then CE PRB Chairman Apollo S. Enriquez.

 

PICE members have been making waves internationally ever since the 1st PICE ITC PICE in Doha, Qatar.  PICE International Chapters, with ample support from PICE National has been in the forefront in bringing together Filipino Civil Engineers to a common ground where they showcase their organizational skills and technical presentations talents and, in the process, successfully promote Filipino Civil Engineers as world class professionals.  And this was very evident in the succeeding PICE ITC’s held as follows:
